Would you like to help parents learn the necessary skills to manage a high conflict co-parenting situation?
Coaching with the New Ways for Families Online Class is designed to reinforce and strengthen the co-parenting skills that are learned in the 12-session class.
How it Works
- Coach: Complete the New Ways for Families Coaches Training
- Coach: Start coaching parents in any setting: in a court program; in an agency; in your private practice
- Parent: register for the class (you are welcome to include a link from your site to the course options)
- Parent: sign up with you for coaching with the class. They take the classes at their convenience and then meet with you for coaching.
***This class can be used by parents to fulfill their state's mandatory parent education requirement.
What Parents Learn
The class focuses on teaching parents 4 Big Skills that they can apply in any co-parenting interaction or situation:
- managed emotions
- flexible thinking,
- moderate behavior, and
- checking yourself
After learning these game-changing skills, parents learn to apply them in co-parenting interactions. The first four sessions teach the 4 Big Skills, then the remaining sessions apply the skills to many situations including a child’s brain development, healthcare, and school decisions, step-parent issues, and avoiding becoming a high conflict case.
For example, in a typically hostile exchange scenario, instead of using all-or-nothing thinking, parents learn to analyze their options in advance by using the flexible thinking skill. Using this skill also helps them manage their emotions and avoid extreme behaviors. Ultimately, these actions result in checking themselves. Then the parent uses the BIFF Response® method to communicate via email or text, and then use the EAR Statement™ method for verbal interactions during the exchange.
